Successful Outcomes for Skills Ability Programme
The Skills Ability programme, in partnership with Nottingham Training Network, which began in summer 2007, was successfully completed in February 2008.
Aimed at young people who have special educational, social or health needs, the Skills Ability programme provided specialised training, mentoring, counselling and other support to help them successfully engage in Further Education and find sustainable employment.
Training included Health and Safety at Work, First Aid, Literacy and Numeracy, and Employability skills (including interview techniques and working with others). Opportunities were provided for candidates to experience work placements with local employers and attend taster sessions for apprenticeship programmes and other courses.
Recruitment profiles were reached, and a high achievement rate was attained. All candidates who completed the programme achieved a number of positive outcomes directly into jobs or onto apprenticeship programmes and other further education.
The candidates will continue to be monitored and supported in the workplace where there may be the opportunity to take NVQ’s (National Vocational Qualifications) through “Train to Gain” or other initiatives.
Similar programmes are currently being planned. Please contact our learning support team for further information on 0871 312 0024.
