East London Learning Centre Continues To Celebrate Candidate Achievements
The UNOCO East London Training Centre, based in Canning Town, is celebrating a record level of recruitment and achievements at NVQ Level 1 in General Construction Operations.
The centre, which opened in September 2007, aims to train local people in many of the skills needed for the 7000 construction jobs being created by the Thames Gateway Development, which includes the 2012 Olympic site.
The centre focuses on developing the practical skills and providing NVQ's (National Vocational Qualifications) that employers need, together with important Health and Safety Training leading to the essential CSCS card. Candidates will also brush up on essential basic skills needed, including accurate weighing, measuring, following plans and ordering materials. Employability skills including CV writing, job searching, interview techniques and working with others also form part of the programme
UNOCO Group chairman Ted Stanley said "The programme has proved very popular with over 150 candidates starting the programme so far. The original recruitment profile has already been increased since the start of the programme in September, and if achievements continue at the current rate, we are expecting a record level of successful outcomes."
Candidates who successfully complete the programme can progress to take and NVQ Level 2 and obtain a full CSCS card, giving them a licence to work in the construction industry anywhere in the UK. They can also opt to move on to specialist training, including Mini Diggers, Street Works, and Abrasive Wheels.
