Men Do Care!

As an employer have you considered actively employing a man as a carer, nursery nurse or social worker? The answer is probably no, as these are areas where you would normally expect to employ a woman.

However, there are many benefits to considering a man for a position in health and social care. There are many situations which would actually require the 'male' touch and in many cases customers and clients especially when they are male themselves feel more comfortable talking to a man. Many female customers also feel they would like a male perspective on certain issues to help them understand some situations better.

In the area of childcare it is important to consider the need for a male role model for both girls and boys and it would be encouraged to have a staff base of mixed gender, to give children a stable and varied surrounding.

Employing men will not only increase the skills pool in your workforce, but will also help to set positive role models for the future for children and young adults, encouraging them to consider a career in health and social care.
