KwikSteps to Success
New software which could change the way schools teach ICT has just been launched and will be available for schools to order now and pay for from July with their e-learning credits.
KwikSteps is a revolutionary new online teaching and learning aid for the delivery of the National Curriculum Programmes for ICT at Key Stages 3 and 4. The "Tell, Show, Try" videos can be used as a teaching aid in classroom based learning or for self study by individual students who can work at their own pace.
With over 30 hours of interactive learning organised into nearly 500 bite size units, it provides a great base for students of all abilities to learn underpinning ICT knowledge and skills which they can use in their everyday work and life. The units are arranged into sections and modules by subject covered and level of learning, and are accessed through an easy to use menu system.
Mixed ability classes can be difficult to teach as some students will quickly progress, whilst others can struggle and get left behind. The teacher can then find it difficult to set work and monitor progress and often spends a lot of time just reiterating instructions and trying to keep up with students' progression.
This is where KwikSteps can help. The "Tell, Show, Try" method means students have to do practical exercises first before progressing onto the next stage, and, as it is fully interactive, the students can learn independently both at school or at home and at a level and pace which suits their ability.
Teachers can set students individual exercises to test their new found knowledge or ask them to complete the set exercises stored within the programme. Students can also use the Kwiksteps programme to work towards popular external qualifications including ECDL, iTQ, OCR CLAIT, Key Skills, Functional Skills, and the new standards for ICT Skills for Life.
With customisation options including screen colours and text size to help anyone with visual problems, Teachers and Students can really make the programme their own. Kwiksteps also contains Educational Games, Skills Checks, Practice Exercises, a Scheme of Work Planner, and much more.
Ruth Hilliard, ICT Co-ordinator at Elizabethan High School said, "If you only buy one thing with your e-learning credits this year, make sure it's KwikSteps!"
