Olympic Training Centre Opened Today
Our new Olympic Training Centre opened its doors today for the first time to 22 trainees who will be learning construction operation skills as part of a programme to help unemployed people in London into work. This Pan-London programme is funded by the European Social Fund and the Learning and Skills Council. It is expected that up to 400 trainees will participate in the programme which runs until July 2008. This is the first of a number of programmes that will be run from the new centre which will also provide an administrative and management base for our other London and South activities.
The new centre in Canning Town is on the edge of the site currently being developed for the 2012 Olympics and we will play an important role in training the thousands of staff required to develop the infrastructure and provide the services required.
The Olympics site is part of the much larger Thames Gateway Regeneration Scheme and two further training centres will shortly be opening in The London Docklands and Barking to service this scheme.
Although initial training will focus on Construction development into other areas of learning will follow, including: Hospitality, Warehouse and Distribution, Business Admin, Health and Social Care and Security.
A big thanks to Gary Taylor, Andrew, and the rest of the team for getting the centre ready for operation in record time and congratulations for a great start to this exciting new development.
